or „Helloooo Mister“ are words you will encounter quite often in Indonesia and Sumba is no different in that. If you ride along the streets on a motorbike or you just walk around in one of the typical sumbanese villages, kids will wink and shout these words to you.
Literally a „Bule“ is a white and therefore mostly caucasian foreigner. To many people in Sumba „Bules“ are still a quite rare attraction and the word doesn’t have any negative connotation, its more an expression of shyness and curiosity.
Bules are, and always will be, different in many ways, and we all as humans should appreciate and celebrate it. Because after all, what really matters is how you behave under your skin – whether it’s white, yellow or black.
